The Raised Game

The work

Rest gets you back to normal. This raises your normal.

First, Jonathan explains the work in his own words. Then, what it is built to do for your body, your mind and your life away from sport.

“I thought I knew what energy could do. What came to me later is on another level: finer, faster and stronger than anything the masters ever showed me.

“Most energy work clears and moves around what is already there. But when a battery is nearly flat, moving its charge around will not fill it. It needs recharging. So does the body, right down to the signals from nerve to muscle and the life energy the Chinese call qi. I charge it until everything fires and connects again. That is what I do.

It is not one energy but many. I can see what each one does. One moves through every blocked channel like a storm. One brings light into the cells. Another holds the work in place once it is done. I choose them for you and place each one only where it is needed: in a hamstring, in a tendon, or in a fear you have carried for years. And when the session ends, the energy stays.”

What it is built to do

Stronger. Quicker to recover.Harder to rattle.

The body

Body sessions put energy into muscle, tendon, ligament and bone, and are built to raise how much energy each one can hold, so you have more to give. Each month you choose the focus: strength and power, speed, stamina, or recovery between training days and games.

Members tell us they sleep deeper, and recover faster from training, travel and late nights, without the energy crashes.

Most of your progress is made in training, in the weeks between competitions. The body sessions are aimed at the recovery from one training day to the next. In Jonathan's experience, the stiffness and soreness after a hard day ease far sooner, and the aches that used to hang around for days are gone before the next one. That means more of your planned work done properly, week after week, and over time, room for your coaches to ask more of you when they judge you ready.

Sleep, food, water, rest and your rehab are still the foundations, your coaches and medical team still set the load, and sharp or lasting pain still goes to your physio. The sessions add charge on top.

The mind and emotions

One session a week, each going a little deeper than the last. It starts where you feel it most: a clear head under pressure, and other people's noise kept out of it.

Members say it gives them the calm athletes look for in mindfulness, without the daily practice: nerves that settle before the big moments, and stay settled during them.

Then it reaches further. Week by week, the sessions clear the old weight underneath: the doubts, fears and hurts that have travelled with you for years. Jonathan's clients describe emotions that no longer knock them off balance, a quieter mind and clearer judgement, a sense of their own worth that does not rise and fall with the last result, and more patience and warmth with the people closest to them. Many find the enjoyment comes back, and with it a clearer sense of what they want, in sport and out of it.

You never have to tell Jonathan what happened, or go back over it. As he works, the energy around those experiences is cleared, and he does not need the details. Keep seeing anyone who already supports you; the sessions sit alongside them.

The person behind the athlete

You were a person long before you were an athlete, and you will be one long after. Your partner, your family and friends, how you feel about yourself on a day off, a move abroad, a new baby, the end of a contract: they matter in their own right, not only for what they do to your game. Bring them into your sessions as freely as your sport.

Injuries and niggles

Your physio leads your rehab and decides when you play. From the first day of rehab to the last, Jonathan puts energy into the injured muscle, tendon or ligament itself. In his experience, injuries heal faster that way.

Your health

Your health matters at home as much as in training. When you fall ill or feel run down, at home or away, tell your doctor first, because they decide whether you train. Then message Jonathan: he starts as soon as he can, and within 24 hours for Elite members. For a cold, see First Sign of a Cold below. And if something longer-running is affecting how you train or live, tell him what is going on and what care you already have, and he will tell you honestly whether his sessions can help alongside it.

What you are chasing

Sessions aimed at the thing you are chasing: selection, the next contract, a final. They build belief and clear the doubts in your way.

Every part of you that plays

Muscle is only the start.Lungs, heart, nerves, sleep.

Your fitness staff train your heart, lungs and legs every day. Jonathan puts energy straight into each of them, and into the rest of you. Every part below has its own session.

01 · The engine

  • Lungs and breath

Energy into the lungs and the muscles that work them, for breathing that feels deeper and stays steady into the last ten minutes. Session: Lungs and Breath.

If you use an inhaler, keep using it as prescribed; new wheeze or breathlessness is one for your doctor.

  • Heart and circulation

Energy for the heart and the circulation that feeds every working muscle, aimed at quicker recovery between sprints and between hard training days. Session: Heart and Circulation.

Chest pain, a racing or irregular heartbeat, or a faint during exercise: stop, and see your doctor before you train again.

  • Energy supply

Every sprint burns energy your body has to make for itself, and a hard week can run the supply low. This session tops it up, for the days you feel you have nothing left. Tiredness that stays however much you rest is one for your doctor. Session: Energy Supply.

02 · Movement and frame

  • Nerves and reactions

The first step, the reaction, the change of direction when the legs are gone, your balance as you land: every one starts as a signal from nerve to muscle. These sessions put energy into that signal, to keep you quick, balanced and coordinated to the finish. Sessions: Reaction Speed; Balance and Agility.

After any knock to the head, the concussion protocol your doctor or sport follows decides when you train and compete, however sharp you feel.

  • Muscle stamina and joint-flow

Made for the closing stages of a game or a training session: less burn in the legs, power that lasts through repeat sprints and heavy lifting, and hips, knees and ankles that stay loose under load. A joint that swells, locks or gives way is one for your physio. Session: Muscle Stamina and Joint-Flow.

  • Tendon, ligament and bone

Tendon and ligament renew slowly, and bone takes the shock of every landing. These sessions bring energy into all three, alongside the loading work your physio sets, for a body that feels solid through a full season. Bone pain that builds with training is one for your doctor. Sessions: Joints, Tendons and Ligaments; Frame and Bone.

03 · Recovery and health

  • Overnight recovery

After a hard game, the body does its repair work while you sleep. This session is given overnight and puts energy behind that work. Members tell us they wake up fresher, not heavier. Session: Overnight Recovery.

  • Immune system and colds

A bug going round the squad, or a throat that starts to scratch on the flight out. Tell your team doctor, then message Jonathan straight away. Members tell us they feel themselves again in a day or two, where a cold used to cost them a week. And Jonathan finds the immune system itself grows stronger as the sessions build. Session: First Sign of a Cold.

Feeling better is not the same as fit to train: your doctor decides that.

  • Stomach and digestion

Hotel food, nerves that knot your stomach before a game, meals that never seem to turn into energy. A session aimed at a settled stomach and food that turns into fuel, with your dietitian's plan left as it is. Session: Gut and Fuel.

If your stomach stays unsettled, or you cannot keep weight on, see your doctor and dietitian.

  • Sleep and the nervous system

Late finishes and long flights steal the deep sleep you recover in. This session is aimed at calming a body and mind still buzzing from competition, so you can sleep properly after a night game or race. Session: Deep Sleep.

  • Hormones and rhythm

Your hormones are the messengers that wake you, help you recover, bring on sleep and, for women, steer the cycle. Every session works on them and the rhythm they keep, using only what your body makes itself. Sessions: part of every session; for women, Cycle Support and Back After Baby.

A period that changes or stops, or tiredness that will not lift, goes to your doctor first.

04 · Your head

  • The mind

Your head has its own weekly sessions, given lying down, each one building on the last: clear in the tunnel, steady in the final minute. Sessions: the weekly mind and emotions programme.

One rule runs through all of them: a new pain, a symptom that will not settle or anything that worries you goes to your doctor or physio first, and they decide when you train.

What makes it different

  • 01

    Nobody else has it.

Plenty of energy practitioners say they draw on a power beyond themselves. Nobody taught Jonathan his, and as he describes it, it keeps getting stronger. There is no course for it, and no one else who offers it.

  • 02

    Aimed at you alone.

Two athletes can book the same session and receive quite different things. Jonathan builds each one from what you tell him: your goals, your schedule, what hurts, and what you cannot quite put into words.

  • 03

    Seven levels deep, every session.

In Jonathan's experience, most energy work reaches one or two levels of the body. Every session here goes through all seven, from the energy around you to the deepest pattern your body holds.

  • 04

    Still at work between sessions.

In Jonathan's experience, each session keeps working for five to ten days, and the body does not slip straight back, so the next one starts from higher ground.

How you get your sessions

Lie down for some.Carry on through the rest.

Mind and emotions sessions happen at a time you agree, in your own time zone, and at least two days before you compete: lie down, close your eyes, and if you fall asleep it makes no difference. Everything else, from body work to injuries to extra sessions, needs nothing from you. Jonathan gives them while you train, travel or sleep, and messages you when each one is done.

What to expect

Here is what Jonathan sees most often in his members.

A golfer on a practice range at first light
  1. 01

    The first sessions

Some members feel a change at once: lighter legs, a clearer head, a calm they had forgotten. Most notice within a few sessions. Body sessions have no after-effects. Now and then a mind and emotions session leaves someone a little groggy the next day; a normal training session usually clears it, and if it lasts beyond a day or two, tell your doctor.

  2. 02

    The first months

The old nerves come back less often and leave sooner, and the body keeps improving month by month. Some weeks nothing seems to move; then something clicks, and members see it in how they play.

  3. 03

    After three or four months

By then most members are playing from a new baseline: what has been cleared from the mind stays clear, and the body holds its gains and keeps building.

What this is not.

It is not medicine, physiotherapy or psychology, and there is no regime to follow. It does not diagnose or treat injury or illness, and it never replaces your doctor, your physio or anything they prescribe. It works alongside them.
